Most of us are not blessed with the physical capabilities of the modern tour pro, but those limits don’t exist on the mental side. There is nothing preventing us from thinking like the best players in the world.
Adopting an elite performance mentality takes practice and discipline. Before you dive in, you need to learn how the best players think on the course, where you are going wrong and how you can change your mindset to play to your potential.
That’s why we’re excited about our next Golf Digest Happy Hour, on Tuesday, March 26 at 8:30 p.m. EST: How to avoid the mental ‘landmines’ of golf, with Dr. Bhrett McCabe. Dr. McCabe is a licensed clinical and sports psychologist who works with a number of golfers on tour, including Jon Rahm, Nick Dunlap, Sam Burns, Billy Horschel and others.
The live webinar is offered exclusively for Golf Digest+ members, who will be able to join the Happy Hour on Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. EST by following the Zoom link that will be posted on this page.
Dr. McCabe is also the author of Golf Digest’s most recent cover story, where he unpacks the mental strategies that 20-year-old Nick Dunlap used to become the first amateur to win a PGA Tour event in 33 years at The American Express earlier this year.
Golf Digest+ members will be able to ask questions throughout the hour-long Q&A session. We will focus on how golfers can avoid the common mental mistakes, or what McCabe calls landmines, that cause their scores to suffer. Why can’t you take your range game on the course? Why do you always seem to blow up after making a birdie? How do you deal with the worry of hitting a terrible shot in front of other people?
Dr. McCabe is an expert in achieving an elite performance mindset, not only from working with top athletes, but from being one himself. While on the baseball team at Louisiana State University, McCabe won two national championships. In addition to working with pro golfers, Dr. McCabe is the Sports and Performance Psychologist for the University of Alabama Athletic Department, where he helps student-athletes in all sports, including the top-ranked football team.
We’re looking forward to chatting with Dr. McCabe and learning the strategies we can use to fix the common mental mistakes that hurt our scores.
