How to navigate Secret Service security for Walz’s visit to our convention

AFSCME Family,

We are thrilled that Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz — Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate — will be our special guest on Tuesday. But with such a high-profile visit comes increased security.

The LA Convention Center doors open as usual at 7:00 a.m. Sector roundtables will begin at 7:30 a.m. and continental breakfast will be provided. Click here for room information.

The U.S. Secret Service checkpoints to enter the Delegates’ Hall convention hall will open at 9 a.m. You may line up earlier, but no one will be able to enter the Delegates’ Hall before this time.

Make sure to plan ahead to make this process as smooth as possible:

  1. Wear your convention badge: Keep your badge visible.
  2. Travel light: Bring only essential items. You won’t be allowed to bring large bags and backpacks into the convention hall.
  3. Leave all prohibited items behind such as weapons, liquids of any quantity (medical items exempt), reusable water bottles (full or empty), umbrellas, outside posters or signs, balloons, laser pointers, sticks, vapes, lighters, aerosol containers, toy guns, and any other items deemed hazardous by the United States Secret Service. Banned items will not be allowed in the convention hall.
  4. Be patient: Security checks are for everyone’s safety, let’s maintain a positive attitude.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.
