MEMPHIS, Tenn. – For a week straight, the Mid-South tackled temperatures that were freezing or below.
That means our heaters have basically been blasting non-stop.
FOX13 met Kimberly Harris right as she was about to pay her most recent MLGW bill.
“I’m literally living from paycheck to paycheck,” Harris explained.
She was shocked by how much she has to pay.
“It’s at almost $600, so I’m going to pay it down to $199, and that’ll keep me going until the next bill,” she explained.
Harris was also one of the countless people across the region who has not been able to drive in this weather.
She told FOX13 she has lost hours at work.
“If I don’t work, I don’t get a check,” she said. “If I don’t get a check, I can’t pay my bills and I can’t get groceries.”
Her next power bill might be even bigger than the last.
After a few warmer days, Saturday’s forecast is in the twenties.
The colder it is, the harder your heater must work.

“Whatever tool they got, baby, I’m going to pay my bills,” she laughed. “Regardless! Tool or no tool, I’m going to pay my bill. I’m going to pay where I stay!”
