How to Get Carey Mulligan’s ’50s Glamour Bob From the 2024 Golden Globes

Carey Mulligan channeled ’50s glamour on the 2024 Golden Globes red carpet.

The actor, nominated for her performance as Felicia Montealegre in Bradley Cooper’s Leonard Bernstein biopic Maestro, wore a vintage Schiaparelli black dress with ruching in the center and an embellished sweetheart strapless neckline. Hairstylist Jenny Cho said the sparkly dress was the main inspiration behind Mulligan’s contrasting sleek bob.

That bob served Old Hollywood style with bouncy ends, pulling inspiration from the many retro looks Mulligan wears in Maestro, while staying contemporary and sleek. “Carey’s gorgeous dress leaned into the ’50s classic glamour, so I wanted the hair to have a modern, polished touch,” Cho told Bazaar.

The stylist used a bevy of Briogeo products to ensure Mulligan’s bob stayed sleek and shiny all night long. The long-lasting look started with prep, Cho explains. After using a smoothing shampoo and conditioner, she applied Briogeo’s Farewell Frizz Milky Leave-In Conditioner and Farewell Frizz Blow Dry Heat Protectant Cream.

Mulligan’s bouncy ends are courtesy of a smoothing, round-brush blow-dry and a flatiron, which Cho used to bend the ends to accentuate the face-framing shape. Cho’s trick to making the bends last throughout the night? Flat pins applied to the hair while it cooled.

For the final touch and to give Mulligan’s hair some extra shine, Cho added Briogeo’s Farewell Frizz Hair Oil, which features a trifecta of oils: rose hip, argan, and coconut. While Cho set the hair with a light-hold, flexible hair spray, she used the Briogeo Vegan Boar Bristle hairbrush to bring softness back into the hair, without disrupting the style or creating frizz.
