How to fix poor line quality display in V8 layouts – Rhino

I don’t know if you will be able to see the difference in the images below…

V7

V8

This is a simple Make2D in V8 and then 1 detail Layout A4 horizontal. Everything else is default. I copy/pasted the result into V7 and did a layout there. In V8 I do have Testwirethicknessscale set to 1.5.

In V7, the lineweights are all consistent and pretty clean, I do detect a tiny bit of aliasing on the off-vertical lines in the Perspective view, but not too bad.

In V8, the result is thinner, the lineweights are inconsistent – some being much thicker than others, and there is a significant amount of aliasing on the off-vertical lines. Setting Testwirethicknessscale to 2 helps a bit, but there is still some inconsistency in the lineweights and the aliasing is still there – plus that’s too thick for my normal display.

I deliberately set curve width to pixels (3) in V8 to make the comparison with V7 where it’s also set to 3. It’s worse when I set it to “Use objects width” in V8 with my usual scale set at 1.5.

This is the first time I have been messing with layouts in V8 – any advice as to what can be done here?

In addition, in Make2D, the lineweights are set to “by layer” (Default) for normal curves and to “Default – by object” for hidden ones – this is more of a Make2D issue I guess.

Addendum:
I printed a layout to PDF from V8 and then printed the PDF on paper. The paper print looks pretty crisp actually. So this may be just a display issue?

Hi Mitch, it is easy to see. —-Mark
