The Matildas are on track to reach the Paris 2024 Olympic Games as they head into their final Olympic qualifier tomorrow night.
This time, they’ll be on home turf as they take on Uzbekistan in the second match of the home-and-away series.
Here’s what you need to know about tomorrow’s game and what a win, loss, or draw will mean for Olympic qualification.
Who are the Matildas playing against?
Uzbekistan.
Uzbekistan is currently ranked 47th in the world.
Australia heads into Wednesday’s second leg of qualifying with a crucial 3-0 lead after beating Uzbekistan in the first match in Tashkent.
Michelle Heyman, Mary Fowler, and Caitlin Foord all scored a goal in the second half.
Where are the Matildas playing?
Marvel Stadium in Melbourne’s Docklands.
Tickets for this game are all sold out.
What time are the Matildas playing?
The match will kick off at 8pm AEDT.
How can I watch the Matildas game in Australia?
The clash will be shown on Channel 10 (10 Bold in Perth) across the country.
It will also be streamed on 10Play and Paramount+.
From 7:30pm AEDT, you can listen to ABC Radio’s coverage on metropolitan and regional stations in all states (except Qld), as well as on ABC Sport Digital Radio and the sport button on the ABC Listen app.
And can stay across all the action with our ABC Sport live blog (once the action starts).
How can the Matildas qualify for the Olympics?
The Matildas will qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics if they win their two-leg tie against Uzbekistan on aggregate.
To do this, the Matildas can either:
- Win both matches
- Achieve one win and one draw, or
- Score more goals than Uzbekistan if both sides win a game
So, if Australia manages to lose tomorrow night’s game 1-0, it will still qualify for the Olympics by winning 3-1 on aggregate.
If the aggregate score is level after both matches then the team which scored the most goals in its away leg will qualify.
If that is still level at full-time in Melbourne on Wednesday, then extra time will be played.
