Topline

For fans not making the trip to the Coachella Valley this weekend, music performances from this year’s Coachella music festival will stream live on YouTube and other festivities can help fans experience the festival from afar.

Key Facts

This year’s Coachella performances will be live-streamed on YouTube during both weekends, with a different stream for each stage.

This will be the first Coachella festival to take place since YouTube launched its multiview experience feature, which it says will allow fans to watch up to four streams at once on a single TV screen while listening to the audio of their choice.

Coachella merchandise for some of the artists set to perform will be available online via YouTube Shopping.

Fans can purchase outfits and other merchandise in the game Fortnite, which is partnering with Coachella for the second year in a row, and players can mimic the Coachella experience by visiting the new in-game Sahara Island location.

Fans can also stream new music several artists slated to perform at Coachella released just in time for their sets—including Doja Cat’s deluxe edition of her album “Scarlet,” Sabrina Carpenter’s upcoming single “Espresso” and Vampire Weekend’s new album “Only God Was Above Us.”

Who’s Performing At Coachella This Year?

This year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival kicks off Friday, April 12, for two consecutive weekends. Lana Del Rey will headline the festival on Friday, Tyler, the Creator will headline on Saturday, and Doja Cat will headline on Sunday. Other artists set to perform include Peso Pluma, Lil Uzi Vert, Sabrina Carpenter, Ice Spice, Jon Batiste, J Balvin, Lil Yachty and Vampire Weekend. The band No Doubt will also be reuniting for their first performance in nearly a decade.

Surprising Fact

Tickets took much longer to sell than usual this year. The first weekend of Coachella took about a month to sell out, whereas last year’s first weekend took about a week to sell out, The Daily Beast reported. Tickets for the second weekend still have not sold out, and many tickets are up for resale online well below face value, the Los Angeles Times reported. Weekend two passes cost between $499 and $599 on the Coachella website, while resellers like StubHub are selling passes for as low as $415 each.

What To Watch For

What the most talked-about moments of Coachella 2024 will be. The festival reliably produces material for social media discussion, like Frank Ocean’s controversial headlining set last year. He headlined the final day of the first weekend, but his performance was marred by a late start and a curfew-mandated cutoff, long pauses between songs, lipsyncing and other logistical issues. He was also difficult to see for fans throughout the performance and at certain points handed over the set to a DJ for extended interludes. Days later, reports indicated that Ocean had injured his leg during rehearsals and scrapped plans to have an onstage ice rink at the last moment. Ocean dropped out of the second weekend and was replaced by Blink-182, who took over headlining duties.
