When is the 2024 Met Gala? How to Watch, The Theme, and More

“PUNK: Chaos To Couture” Costume Institute Gala

May is quickly approaching, meaning that if you’re even somewhat plugged into fashion or culture, you know the Met Gala is looming. Maybe you’ve spent the past first Monday of May barely paying attention via social media or passively reposting your favorite looks come Tuesday morning, and hey, we don’t blame you. The Met Gala takes a lot of prep. But if your New Year’s resolution was to be more engaged or prepared, this counts — and don’t let anyone convince you otherwise.

Monday, May 6. Mark your calendar!

With us! We will be broadcasting live from our TikTok and Instagram. That’s right, it’s the one night a year where you don’t have to scramble to find cable TV. The Met Gala is also livestreamed on Vogue.com and its respective social channels, with co-hosts La La Anthony, Derek Blasberg, and Chloe Fineman narrating through the night. And fan-favorite Emma Chamberlain will be returning this year to interview the celebrities from the red carpet.

If livestream isn’t your preferred method, you can watch Live From E! on the E! network. Gather your friends, grab some pizza, and get ready to judge some looks.

The Cut team will start broadcasting live as soon as the first star hits the carpet, which could start as early as 5 p.m. ET. Officially, though, the Met Gala starts at 6 p.m. and lasts until 8 p.m. (or however late Rihanna decides to show up, especially since we know she’ll be there).

Definitely Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Hemsworth, and Bad Bunny, since they are the co-chairs of this year’s event. TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew is also an honorary chair, so chances are there will be an influencer or two prancing around. Jonathan Anderson, designer and creative director of Loewe, is the other honorary chair, a perfect pairing since he just worked with Zendaya and bestie Luca Guadagnino on Challengers. My hope is that means they’ll bring Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist along.

The official Costume Institute exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art is “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” but the general theme for the night of the Met Gala is “The Garden of Time.” So you can expect to see nods to archival pieces and nature alike.
