How to follow the Orienteering World Cup Round 1 in Switzerland

The international orienteering season is about to start and you’re invited to follow all the action from the Orienteering World Cup 2024 closely.

We start in Switzerland this weekend with Round 1 – a Knock-Out Sprint on Saturday and an individual sprint on Sunday.

The city of Olten hosts both races and offers flat and fast racing in urban and park areas with an old town centre with narrow streets and foot paths to offer tricky orienteering courses.

250 athletes from 32 countries have registered to race in Switzerland – among them the World Cup title holder Tove Alexandersson (SWE), who is chasing her 10th consecutive title this year.

Matthias Kyburz (SUI) won his sixth World Cup title last year, but he won’t be racing as he is preparing for the Olympic marathon.

Regardless of whether you follow from the arenas in Olten or from home, you are guaranteed good opportunities to follow the competitions.

A high quality TV broadcast from Saturday and Sunday is available at IOF TV and a number of national tv-channels: Switzerland (SRF), Sweden (SVT) and Finland (YLE).

IOF TV offers commentary in both English and French:

Katherine Bett and Jonas Merz are behind the microphones on the English stream, while Robin Devrieux and Matthieu Puech take care of the French commentary.

Right now, there is a special discount package on IOF TV where you get all four races from Olten and next weekend’s World Cup sprint races from Genoa for 30 EUR. Of course you can buy each race separately for 9 EUR.

Friday afternoon’s qualification for the Knock-Out Sprint can be followed on IOF LIVE.
