Man City tell Barcelona how to keep hold of Joao Cancelo

Barcelona are keen to sign Joao Cancelo but face an uphill battle trying to land the Portugal international on a permanent basis.

Mundo Deportivo are reporting that Manchester City have already told Barcelona what they need to do if they are to keep hold of Cancelo for another season.

Pep Guardiola’s side either want a straight sale at a price of 30 million euros or a loan with a mandatory purchase option.

Cancelo is not in City’s plans for the future but the club don’t want to let him go on the cheap, particularly as he has a contract that runs until 2027.

Guardiola has already said a deal needs to be reached that suits everyone, and MD reckon Cancelo will go on City’s pre-season tour if an agreement hasn’t been found.

The defender was a regular last season for Barcelona, playing on both sides of the defence, and has made it clear that he really wants to stay.

He’s also previously criticised City which means a return to the Premier League champions could be more than a little awkward.
