How to Style Crocs Dylan Platform Clogs

I was once a Crocs hater.

I’m sorry, it’s true, but I was 19 and very opinionated, and I liked what I liked and I hated what I hated. Despite people insisting they were comfortable, I couldn’t get past how they looked, so I refused to ever wear them. Now that I’m an old millennial, comfort is my top priority, and needless to say, I’ve swiftly (and happily) jumped on the Crocs bandwagon.

I have a growing Crocs collection, including a few pairs of platforms, so the Dylan Platform Clog caught my eye right away. I’m down for anything that will give me some height (short queen problems), and these have a 2.2-inch platform.

Now here’s the thing. If you’re looking at these shoes and thinking to yourself, “These aren’t much to look at, how can I make these comfortable shoes cute?” It’s all in styling and confidence. (Also, you should just wear whatever you want.)

I got the Dylan in Lava, aka bright orange, and I can fully admit that the color will not be for everyone. The shoes also come in white, black and wheat if you want a more neutral shoe. Those will certainly be easier to fit into your wardrobe, but what I love about the Lava is that it provides that pop of fun in an outfit. If I’m going to wear a chonky shoe (yes, chonky), I might as well really go for it with the color, too, you know?

Outfit 1: Garden Party

I don’t really abide by fashion rules — I wear navy blue and black, I wear horizontal stripes even though a boy told me it made me look fat when we were in seventh grade, and I wear all of the things that Gen Z tells me is “wrong.”

So of course I have no problem pairing these casual bright orange shoes with a dressy all-white two-piece set for a garden party look. I actually love the juxtaposition of it. But to keep from pushing it too far into the this-does-not-go-together realm, I picked a set made with cotton eyelet so that it still felt somewhat informal.

The shoes added the pop of color that the outfit called for. I wanted to try a monochromatic outfit with the shoes, and I opted for white for the summer rather than another color. Black could have pushed me into Halloween territory, which I just wasn’t feeling

Outfit 2: Running Errands

Let’s be real, the running errands outfit is the easiest way to style the Dylan. You can throw together anything you want. Initially I was going to do yoga pants, but it was 90 degrees in New Jersey, so I opted for bike shorts instead. Going with a sky blue pair complemented the orange shoes (it’s all about the color wheel here), and a white tee finished the look.

I’ve been wearing these shoes for grocery store runs, walks to the post office and driving to the train stations to pick up my out-of-town friends. They’re great slip-ons for every situation.

I initially had my concerns about driving in these platforms, but then I remembered I am a millennial and wore sequin-covered foam platform flip-flops to high school every day of the week (except for the days I wore my flame-covered platform sneakers). Real ones know exactly the shoes I’m talking about. Needless to say, driving in these Crocs was a breeze.

Outfit 3: Chill Day Off

For an in-between look, jeans are an easy option. I maintain that jeans go with anything and everything. Because this is such a prominent shoe, I did try to avoid a pant leg that tapered here, instead opting for a wider leg. For the top, I went with a contrasting splash of color to tie in with the orange and keep the summery theme alive.

Is There Anything Not to Love?

I will admit these shoes make my feet sweat, but that’s wholly a me problem, because I haven’t been wearing socks with them. They also make a bit of a “farting” noise because of the way your foot skin rubs against the unique Croslite material — another problem that can be solved with socks. So all in all, both of these problems are me problems and not Crocs problems.
