The Anaheim Ducks and the San Jose Sharks met in the rookie faceoff earlier this month. Now, the two teams will meet in the preseason with many of the players fighting for a spot in the NHL or a contract.
The news out of Sharks training camp is injuries. It looks like Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Yaroslav Askarov and Shakir Mukhamadullin are still not ready to join the rest of the team in camp.
Thomas Bordeleau also hasn’t played. Curtis Pashelka of the San Jose Mercury News reports that Bordeleau is week-to-week.

That news puts Bordeleau’s start of the season in question.
Meantime, Macklin Celebrini left the ice today with a “lower-body” injury according to San Jose Hockey Now’s Sheng Peng.

Head Coach Ryan Warsofsky said it was nothing serious. Coaches can be a bit coy about injuries, especially during camp, so we’ll keep an eye on this.
San Jose Sharks lines
Will Smith makes his professional debut for the Sharks tonight. The fourth overall pick from 2023 is expected to center a line with Barclay Goodrow and Fabian Zetterlund.
Max Miller of The Hockey News reports that Vitek Vanecek will get the start in net. That said, it could end up like the last game, where the goaltenders switched halfway through the game. If that’s the case, then look for former University of Vermont goaltender Gabriel Carriere to get some time in net. Carriere is expected to play for the Barracuda this season.

Look for a familiar face on the other side of the ice tonight. Ryan Carpenter signed a two-year deal with the San Diego Gulls in July. Carpenter could find himself in a similar position as he did in San Jose, with the possibility of an NHL contract if the Ducks have too many injuries to deal with.

How to watch Ducks at Sharks
Unfortunately, there are not many opportunities to watch the Sharks take on the Ducks live if you live outside the Bay Area. Turns out there are a lot of blackout restrictions that only allow the Sharks to broadcast the game to viewers who live in the Bay Area. A VPN might get you around it, but you didn’t hear that from me.
Of course, listening through the Sharks SAP Center app is another option. Last time, the video feed had Dan Rusanowsky on the call anyway.
