The World Series heads to New York for Game 3 with the Los Angeles Dodgers halfway to a championship and the home team in dire need of a win. The New York Yankees are favored to win Game 3 but are significant underdogs to win the series with the 0-2 hole they face. With the news that Dodger superstar Shohei Ohtani will, in fact, play in Game 3, the Dodgers’ odds of winning it all improved slightly from -400 to -450.
The Yankees are staring at a series deficit, but it was close to being a different story coming out of Game 2, with all the pieces in position for a comeback in the top of the ninth. New York was down 4-1 when a single from Giancarlo Stanton gave Juan Soto a run, followed by Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Anthony Rizzo getting on base. But, with the bases loaded, the Yanks just couldn’t finish it, and the Dodgers held on for the 4-2 win.
Will a trip across the country and home-field advantage give the Yankees a boost? They have Clarke Schmidt taking the mound. We haven’t seen Schmidt against the Dodgers yet this season, but in 9 1/3 innings this postseason, he has a 3.86 ERA with six strikeouts, four earned runs and one homer.
If they want to win this series, the Yankees need Aaron Judge to regain his dominance. The superstar is 6-for-40 (.150) with two homers and 19 strikeouts this postseason. In this World Series, he has struck out three times in both games. Thankfully, New York is not short on talent, with Soto, Stanton, Chisholm, Gleyber Torres and others stepping up to the plate.
The Dodgers are starting Walker Buehler, who hasn’t pitched against New York yet this season. In nine innings this postseason, he has an ERA of 6.00 with six earned runs to six strikeouts.
Of course, the big question hovering over this matchup was Ohtani’s health after he left Game 2 in the seventh with a shoulder injury. The incident cast a pall over the stadium, but Ohtani was later cleared to play Game 3. How much the injury affects him is yet to be seen. Will he be at full strength for the rest of this series?

- “Moneyline” shows each team’s odds on BetMGM.
- “Implied Win%” is the chance a team has to win based on those BetMGM odds.
- “THE BAT X win%” is the chance a team has to win based on EV Analytics’ projections.
- “Cash Line” is how THE BAT X would price each team’s odds.
- “Value” is the percentage difference between the odds chances and our projections.
The higher the value percentage, the better — which you can easily see from the color coding from red (bad pick) through to green (good pick).
Note: On mobile, you may have to scroll to see the color-coded “Value” column on the far right of the first set of tables.
Another note: If you’re seeing old data or the tables aren’t showing up, you may need to “hard refresh” this page, or you may have an ad blocker or other software blocking the tables from loading.
