How to Dress for an All-Night Holiday Party

Sunglasses? At a holiday party? If it’s any sign of the kind of night you’ll be having, it seems like it will be a fun one. Not all holiday parties are created equal, so you need an outfit to match if you’ve already leveled up from office get-togethers and family soirées to something a bit less buttoned up. Consider a look heavy on sequins and sparkle, and don’t shy away from piling on the statement pieces (nighttime sunnies included). What’s particularly fun about this outfit is that there’s not a single focal point but, instead, a number of bold add-ons that make it clear you want to be the center of attention.

While it’s normal for a sophisticated party girl to gravitate toward all black, try going for something bolder this holiday season — a bright infusion of color. The combination of pink and red, via a skirt, tights, and shoes, feels festive without channeling Mrs. Klaus (no shade, justice for Mrs. Klaus). Additionally, a furry white coat worn shrugged off the shoulders adds red-carpet glamour and a textural touch of intrigue. Even if the party is entirely indoors, you won’t be taking it off (just don’t get too close to anyone nursing a glass of red wine).

The colorful sequin Kim Shui skirt is balanced out by a soft, white Tencel tank with a scalloped lace trim from the Gap. While a bustier might be sexier, this second-skin top gives a slinky pajama vibe without being too overtly like lingerie. For a house party or the club, you’ll be comfortable (no fussing with your top all night or sweating through polyester), and the finished look is dressy without trying too hard. While the skirt and tank combination feels like a nod to the early aughts, when an Abercrombie tank and a denim mini were the de facto going-out look, the accessories make the look 2024.

This Gap tank is incredibly soft and features a scalloped lace trim, adding an unexpected touch to any outfit. Plus: It will surely come in handy this holiday season with lots of events and family hangouts.

For a Dorthy-coded addition, shimmery Jimmy Choo pumps feel like festive holiday tinsel and look sharp enough to cut a rug. The Paco Rabanne mixed-metal bag is in part what ties the entire look together, coordinating with both the bold gold earrings and the Swarovski tennis necklace. Lastly, let’s get back to the Bottega Veneta sunglasses, which will come in handy when you leave the party the next morning, the sun already up.
