DeepSeek, the AI-powered chatbot that rivals ChatGPT, Copilot, and Gemini, has been dominating the AI landscape for the last couple of days. While DeepSeek’s performance is almost on par with ChatGPT’s, the Chinese startup developed it at a tiny fraction of the cost and unlike the former, also made the large language model open-sourced, which means anyone can look and contribute to the code.

Another difference between the two is that unlike ChatGPT, DeepSeek currently has no paid subscription, but it certainly lacks some features like the ability to generate images or even analyse photos. If you want to try Deepseek on your phone or laptop, here’s how to do it.

How to use DeepSeek on mobile or laptop

Accessing Deepseek on a smartphone or a tablet is pretty easy. You can either download the DeepSeek app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store or simply type ‘chat.deepseek.com’ in your favourite browser. However, before using Deepseek, you will have to create an account using your Google account.

When you sign in, you will see a ChatGPT-like user interface, with a text box at the bottom that lets you talk to the AI-powered chatbot. If you want to check out previous chats, simply tap on the two horizontal lines that appear on the top left to bring up past conversations with the AI chatbot.

To enable the DeepThink R1 model or look up information on the internet, you will have to manually enable the features by clicking on the DeepThink (R1) and Search buttons, which can be found beneath the text box. If you want the chatbot to extract text from images or analyse a document, simply press the ‘+’ button that resides on the right side of the text box.

Festive offer

To start a new chat, just tap the button on the top right and DeepSeek will initiate a conversation from scratch. While the Chinese AI chatbot is currently barebones at the moment, it is expected to get more features in the future.
