Hello everyone!
This is my first tutorial so I hope you enjoy it and let me know if you have any questions.
STUDIES \
First we start with our studies. Clouds are like any other form, they have planes where the light hits differently. That includes the light hitting it differently depending on where it is.
THE SKY \
I started with a gradient of what I wanted the sky to be and then sketched the shape I wanted for the cloud.
Then i added in the base color and one thing i learned from my studies, a gradient on the side of the clouds i wanted the light to not hit
Then I painted in the shadow plane using the same color, making it more defined
I then rendered the clouds in rough blobs that have shapes of shadow and highlight. While also adding in a darker color to make sure the clouds have sections where the light can’t hit
I continued rendering the clouds and making sure to add in little strands of fly away clouds. Like you would with hair
I then used my brush to paint over the clouds using the sky color on the edges to give it a more natural look. And then added details like light rays and more lighting highlights on the clouds
And this can be applied to any sky you wish to draw. I recommend watching the video form more insight into my process.
Have a lovely day!
