Take it in: We may be witnessing history.
Team USA cannot be stopped. After finishing 4-0 in the group stage with a +19 point differential, the U.S. women have cruised to the gold medal game with back-to-back blowouts. First, they took down Italy 6-0 in the quarterfinals before shutting out Sweden 5-0 in Monday’s semifinal. Goalie Aerin Frankel has not allowed a score in the team’s last five games, defender Caroline Harvey leads all players with nine points, and forward Hannah Bilka is tied for the most goals with four.
Now, all eyes are on the gold medal game. Team USA is now guaranteed a medal, but it has no plans on finishing as the runner-up again. The U.S. will face Canada, whom they have already beaten 5-0 in the group stage. However, Team USA will not be content until they avenge their loss from the 2022 Beijing gold medal game, when Canada prevailed 3-2.
