Long security lines and flight-day uncertainty have more travelers looking for ways to speed things up at the airport. If you already have TSA PreCheck, there’s another option that can make the ID check itself quicker at select airports: TSA PreCheck Touchless ID.

Touchless ID uses facial recognition for identity verification at security checkpoints. TSA says it can make the process faster and more efficient—but you have to opt in through your airline, and the steps vary by carrier.

To enroll, you generally must have:

  • TSA PreCheck
  • A frequent-flyer account with a participating airline
  • A Known Traveler Number (KTN) saved to that airline profile
  • Valid passport information uploaded to your airline profile

  2. Go to the Information and password section.
  3. Save your KTN and passport info to your profile.

United Airlines

United enrollment is inside your MileagePlus account in the United app.

  1. Open the United app and go to your MileagePlus account settings.
  2. Find TSA PreCheck / travel documents and add your passport info and KTN.
  3. Opt in to Touchless ID on the same page (before check-in).
  4. United notes you should review privacy details and give permission for facial scan ID use.

Good to know: Some airlines (including United and Delta) may also offer Touchless ID options at certain bag-drop locations at participating airports.

If your airport has Touchless ID, you’ll typically see a dedicated lane at the TSA checkpoint for Touchless ID users. Follow the signs indicating Touchless availability (varies by airport/terminal).
