Honored to have my insights included in this new US News & World Report piece by Janet Helm on food noise and obesity medications. The article explores how GLP-1 medications can quiet the constant mental chatter around food, help people feel satisfied with less, and free up mental space so they can more fully engage in their daily lives. Janet also highlighted the Food Noise Questionnaire we developed (5 questions, great to use clinically and in research, and is free to use). Janet and I also discussed the importance of viewing these medications as tools, not magic bullets, within a broader, compassionate approach that includes ongoing support, realistic expectations, and addressing weight stigma.
I’m especially happy to be included alongside my colleagues and friends Emily Dhurandhar and Nina Crowley, PhD, RDN, LD, who are doing incredible work to improve how we understand and support people living with obesity, including research related to food noise. If you’re curious about what “food noise” really is and how these treatments work in the real world, this article is a great place to start.
