Nicholas Galitzine has the power—the power suits to level up his red carpet looks, that is. The Masters of the Universe actor bulked up (reportedly aided by consuming 5,000 calories a day) for his upcoming role as He-Man, and he hasn’t ditched the muscle mass just yet. Playing the ’80s superhero known as Prince Adam, who transforms into the scantily clad He-Man once he wields the Sword of Power, Galitzine ditched the lithe physique that helped him ascend to fame in Red, White, and Royal Blue to play the comic-book hunk with the body of a Pumping Iron bodybuilder. And now that it’s time to promote the film, the British actor’s stacked stature hasn’t prevented him from wearing a nice suit. If anything, it enhances the experience.
In an appearance on The Tonight Show this week, Galitzine looked comfortable in a grey double-breasted suit with a white spread-collar shirt and a green geometric tie, swapping out dress shoes for slick leather boots. Working with stylist Ben Schofield (whose roster also includes fellow English heartthrobs Callum Turner and Harris Dickinson), Galitzine has been running through an arsenal of double-breasted bad boys while promoting his summer blockbuster, sporting well-tailored Prada and Saint Laurent in various hues and fabrics. In turn, his ensembles offer up an incidental masterclass in getting dressed up when you’re built like a horse.
As X’s menswear guy Derek Guy once explained, muscular men have a tendency to opt for tight-fitting suits that accentuate and highlight their physique. The result, per Guy, is often a lot of “a lot of pulling and puckering” that’s ultimately unflattering and surely uncomfortable for the wearer. What Galitzine and Schofield get right is choosing suits that highlight the actor’s proportions without a skintight fit: You can tell he has broad shoulders, a wide chest, and big arms all without the fabric needing to cling to him like shapewear. Plus, the lower button stance on these suit jackets emphasize his “Dorito-shape” build—large upper body with a slim waist—that further gives him the appearance of a Greek marble statue. And what are surely the quads the size of the average person’s upper body have found their home in wide-leg pants with a clean break at the shoe.
The actor has found a winning formula for this press tour—a double-breasted suit with a button-shirt and tie—and well-dressed muscular men in history have opted for the DB suit jacket to complement their bodies. (Last year, Dwayne Johnson pulled a similar move in custom Prada at the Venice Film Festival.) But it would also be nice if Galitzine and co. could have some fun with a single-breasted suit as well, so long as the button stance is low enough and the pants’ rise comes up high enough to accentuate his build proportionately.
In any case, it’s a welcome development that the Master of the Universe seems to have found himself a master tailor.
